DeKalb Mugshots as Records

That makes the sheriff roster the first official photo channel for a person inside the short public release window.

Alabama public-record guidance from the Alabama League of Municipalities says arrest information, including the jailer's logbook, is public record and says a mugshot is a public record. The same guidance also discusses expungement of identification information, including booking photographs, in certain cleared or released-without-charge circumstances. A photo may be public at one point and restricted later if a valid legal process applies.

Use official channels first. The release roster is time-limited, the app is a secondary sheriff channel, and a records request may be needed after the public window closes. ADOC and ALEA apply only to their own record types.

It is labeled as a 48-hour release list by the sheriff's roster entry page, so older booking photos may not stay visible there. The release date and booking number should be saved if the user plans to ask for the underlying booking record later.

The sheriff's disclaimer matters. DeKalb says website roster information is for convenience and cannot be certified for accuracy or authenticity. If a photo is needed for an official purpose such as a court filing or records request, ask the originating agency for the record rather than relying on a screenshot.

DeKalb Sheriff App Photos

DeKalb has an official sheriff app channel. The sheriff app page links to download options, and the Apple listing says the app includes public information for inmates, most wanted, sex offenders, special alerts, and press releases. The Google Play listing describes similar public information. That makes the app a legitimate secondary source for public inmate and photo discovery.

The app should not be treated as a promise that every released person's photo will appear. It is another sheriff-published channel to check when the website is hard to use on a phone or when app alerts and public-information panels are easier to navigate.

Request a DeKalb Booking Photo

After the 48-hour window, a records request may be the better path. The public pages did not show a dedicated mugshot request form or fee. A focused request should identify the booking and ask for the booking record or booking photograph if it is publicly releasable.

1. Collect the full name, booking number, booking date, and release date if available.
2. Contact the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office or jail at the Fort Payne detention center.
3. Ask for the booking record or booking photo tied to that booking.
4. Use the DeKalb Circuit Clerk if the photo issue depends on court disposition, sealing, or expungement.
5. Use ADOC or ALEA only when the person is in the matching state-prison or registry record type.

ALEA and ADOC Photo Limits

ALEA is not a general mugshot archive. Its registry applies to qualifying released offenders after conviction and release through probation or end of sentence. ALEA says local law enforcement submits current photograph and fingerprint information, and offenders report on a schedule. That is a registry path for a specific legal category, not a broad DeKalb booking-photo search.

ADOC is also limited by custody type. Use ADOC when a DeKalb case became a state-prison sentence. The captured ADOC definitions did not create a general booking-photo rule for DeKalb jail mugshots, so the safer use of ADOC is state custody and release verification first.

Local news, sheriff press releases, and third-party reposts may carry booking photos. They can help locate an old image, but they are not official release confirmation. A repost can be stale, incomplete, or separated from a later court result. If a repost conflicts with a sheriff record, court record, ADOC record, or ALEA source, use the official source.

No commercial mugshot-publishing or pay-to-remove site is linked here. The safer records path is to check the sheriff, court, ADOC, ALEA, BOP, ICE, or a public-record process as applicable. Private mirrors may have their own policies, but they do not control the government record.

Expungement and Mugshot Access

Alabama expungement is governed by Alabama Code Title 15, Chapter 27. ALEA says courts grant expungements, not ALEA. Section 15-27-1 lists misdemeanor, violation, traffic, and municipal ordinance categories that may qualify under stated circumstances, such as certain dismissals, no bills, findings of not guilty, and other statutory conditions.

A release alone does not remove a booking photo. If a case was dismissed, no-billed, resulted in acquittal, or fits another Alabama expungement category, the court process may affect public access to arrest, booking, and court records. Check the court record and the statute rather than assuming that leaving jail changes photo access.

Match DeKalb Booking Profiles

A booking photo should be matched to the full booking profile before it is treated as the right image. The DeKalb released feed showed profile links along with booking numbers, age, booking dates, release dates, charges, bond fields, and images. Those details are useful because names can repeat, spellings can vary, and a reposted image may be tied to an older booking rather than the release being checked.

Use the booking number as the strongest local identifier when asking the sheriff for a photo or record. If the public profile is no longer visible, provide the booking date and release date if they were captured from the feed. For a court-related question, match the charge and booking date to the DeKalb case record before relying on a photo found outside the sheriff's systems.

Photo Does Not Prove Release

A mugshot proves that a booking photo existed for a booking record. It does not prove that the person has been released, that the case ended, or that supervision has ended. For release status, use the sheriff's 48-hour release entry, jail records, ADOC custody fields, ABPP supervision sources, or court records depending on the custody path.

This is especially important in DeKalb because the same county facility can house local detainees, short-sentence inmates, municipal arrests, people awaiting ADOC transfer, and federal detainees. A photo on a roster entry should be read with the release date, booking number, charge fields, and any hold or transfer clue.
